I have a suggestion.
All millennium development goals should be revisited.
Yes, because we have not really addressed the problem .
Okay, quite.
Let me explain.
I mean, looks like most the world’s problems stem from the heart, and none has stood up at a UN Summit to address the matters of the heart. I mean look, what a causes global hunger? Corrupted hearts that eat money meant for rehabilitating lives. What’s causing most violence against women? Will leave you to answer that.
But don’t lose me here; all I am saying is that humanity has from time immemorial always addressed the wrong problem. From breast implants to plastic surgery, from anti depressants to behavior change communication. We are a people devoted to the surface.
Even in God’s house, the ancient saw us and wrote..
“Their lips are near but their hearts are far from me” (Isaiah 29:13) “
Jesus remarked at the same tragedy .
“First clean the inside of the cup and the outside will be clean also” (Matt 23:26)
And it was just getting started…
“Whitewashed tombs”,” dead men’s bones (Matt 23:27-28)” -okay, not good names to call your small group members at church.
James also told us how all temptation is brewed there (James 4:1)
And he had a point; our hearts need the most surgery. Jeremiah called them “desperately wicked (Jer 17:9)”.
Christ also told us every world problem stems from there ,”issues of life(Matt 15:19)- he called them.
But my oh my!
How we love to shift the blame.
“Addictions,” “family vices” “Generational curses” we say. None says “it was my heart.”
Maybe revisiting our Lord’s words would help the United Nations .yes, but my heart first, for I am the cause.
And After all, “the heart of the problem is the problem of the heart –did I just say that right?
Never mind, it still means the same.
