SEARCHING FOR ETERNITY IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES.

jjBlame it on Adam.

Boy had “arrived”. A pretty babe, a garden to himself, communion with God, I mean – good life just!

Look, We buy roses onFebruary 14th – boy had a garden to himself.

We dream of a honeymoon in a game reserve, boy ran the first national park. Makes me understand the Adam joke even more, that he and Eve may have actually owned “wheels,” because they were driven out” (Gen 3:24)” of the Garden of Eden! I see Oprah and Forbes magazine interviewing such a couple.

But then, amidst all this, a problem lingered. The serpent slid along abrown branch, popped through the leaves and seethed in the face of the world’s first wife. The world’s greatest defiance against a God of perfection had just began- sin. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Gen 3:5)

You know how the entire story unfolds, don’t you?

In a moment, Adam’s beau disobeyed and ”took matters in her own hands”, drew closer and flipped the low hanging fruit. “Munch, munch” was the next thing we knew, and she passed on.

Things have never been the same again. From Solomon’s 300 helpmates, through Bill Clinton’s Monica maneuvers, to our transgressions last week. The effects run down generations. And the in-betweens of course, Delilah with Samson’s ponytail, Noah drunk in front of his sons, David lusting on the balcony, Jezebel taunting Elijah. Sin entered mankind.

“Conceived in sin” (Ps 51:5) ”no wonder we are born wailing! “ But then again, with ” eternity set in our hearts”. (Eccl 3:11) Always longing to go back to that spot, that perfect spot where the first husband stood, chewing. A place of restored communion with God- the epitome of a good life.

So we try, oh how we try! Fame, recognition, late nights, sensuality, earthly wealth- vanity is all we pursue until we embrace “reconciliation to God through Christ”. (2Cor 5:19)

Thank God he provides a way for us to return to that communion through the “one mediator. ” (1 Tim 2:5) Yeah-“Second Adam” if you would like to call him.

“Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned” (Romans 5:12)

That’s what Paul sees when he writes, “The whole world groans waiting in expectation..” (Rom 8:19) ”

Now we can rest, For “whoever has the son has eternal life and whoever has no son has no eternal life (1 John 5:12) ” – no middle ground.

And actually, no more searching for eternity in all the wrong places.
